Baylor County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2005, the United States Census Bureau estimates that the population is 3,843, down from the 2000 census, indicating a population of 4,093. The population was 4,385 in 1990. Its county seat is Seymour. Baylor is named for Henry Weidner Baylor, a surgeon in the Texas Rangers during the Mexican-American War. Baylor County is not to be confused with Baylor University, which is located approximately 230 miles southeast in McLennan County.
